Writing about the battle of choice between the manual and automatic umbrella, we got to thinking about the other major factors, which are stick or folding. In this case, customers tend to fall firmly in one camp or the other, without much wiggle room to accept the other. People either love or hate the other variety, so allow us to shed some light on this epic battle for umbrella domination.

Stick

The stick umbrella is the oldest variety on the market. They track open and closed with seamless ease and lets be honest…they look pretty classy when carried on the arm or even hooked onto a purse strap. A stick umbrella spells class, which is why the stick model is regularly preferred by business people and those who prize fashion.

But the stick umbrella is also wildly practical. They are often nice and large, meaning more coverage for those days when the wind blows sideways, and they tend to last longer than folding umbrellas, as like manual versus automatic, stick models have less working parts with less likelihood of needing repair. They also are typically stronger, as there are no bending frames.

Folding

On the other hand, you can’t beat the practicality of a great folding umbrella and that’s for one main reason: space. Our House Brand Two Fold is our most popular seller for a reason and that’s because it still has a relatively large canopy while also tucking neatly into briefcases, purses, backpacks and luggage. Going on a plane? These puppies fit right inside your checked baggage, whereas maneuvering a stick model would be airport chaos. And if you spend a lot of time on public transit, a folding umbrella is handy to have on hand when space is at a premium.

The choice between folding and stick umbrella can be tricky. Just take our word for it…you need one of each. (Or maybe two or three…)
